Enabling the LGfL Remote Access RD Gateway
LGfL provides a secure RD (Remote Desktop) gateway. The service provides an initial layer of authentication against the user’s USO credentials and, when successfully authenticated, the user is passed onto a school’s own locally-hosted Microsoft server running a target RD session. At this point, local authentication will be needed.
The service is available to both staff and pupils alike, and the USO system provides a granular level of control over access, so for example Year 7 and 8 students and staff can be granted access and all other users denied access.
If you do not have your own locally hosted server or only require remote access for staff, we'd recommend looking at LGfL Freedom2Roam instead.
To enable the RD Gateway:
- a Nominated Contact will need to raise a support case on https://support.lgfl.org.uk stating the internal IP address of the terminal server to which access should be given
- the school must specify the group of users (staff, staff & students, or other) that should be granted access.
Once access has been configured, the Nominated Contact will see the terminal server's IP address listed in the MIPs requests section on the LGfL Support Site which is located under My Account >> LGfL deployment >> Firewall & Mail relay.
There will also be a link to download the RDP shortcut that can be distributed to all your users to make it easy for them to log into the gateway.
Click the Get .rdp file link to download the shortcut.
You can then share this file to all users that have been granted access.
The RDP shortcut will look simply look like a normal windows RDP client icon:
