USO - Nominated Contact Management
It is now possible to grant a school staff member the statuses of Nominated Contact (NC), Mail domain and/or SchoolProtect (WebScreen) administrator via the support site, without the need to fax approval forms to the Service Desk or to raise a support case. Instead, a Headteacher or Nominated Contact in possession of an OTP tag can grant these permissions online.

Please note:
- Once a school has reached its maximum number of Nominated Contacts, no more can be created. If your establishment has reached its quota, you will see a message at the top of the page that reads "No further Nominated Contacts can be set up, since this school has used its quota" and no Request or Grant links will be available. Please raise a case with the Service Desk if this needs to be increased for your establishment.
- By default, Headteachers are not automatically granted the permissions managed on this page, including Nominated Contact, but these permissions can be added to their account as per the processes described on this guide page.
1. What do the different permissions do?
Nominated Contact – allows a user to act as an administrator on behalf of a school in all matters pertaining to USO accounts and related services through the school’s LGfL connection, including the ability to raise support cases.
Mail domain administrator – allows a user to manage school email accounts (StaffMail) and email filtering (MailProtect).
SchoolProtect (WebScreen) administrator – allows a user to manage a school’s web filtering configuration.
2. Requesting permissions
A member of staff who wishes to request additional permissions can log into the support site and go to User Accounts >> Nominated Contact management. The page will list all staff at your school with your name highlighted in red. Staff members who already have a permission will have a "Yes" next to their name. If you do not already have the desired permission, you will have a Request link.
When you click the Request link, an automated email will be sent to your Head Teacher and Nominated Contacts to approve or deny your request. Whatever the outcome, you will receive an email notifying you when the request has been dealt with.
3. Managing Permissions
If you are a Headteacher or Nominated Contact, you can manage permissions on the page.
Dealing with requests from staff members:
If a request is received from a member of staff, it can be approved or denied via the Nominated Contact management page in the support site. Any staff who have requested permissions will appear as Pending, and you will have the option to either approve or deny the request.
An OTP code must be generated and entered in the box provided. Then the relevant link must be clicked to complete the action. Please note that Nominated Contacts responding to requests will also receive a text box where they must input a reason. This reason will be sent to the Headteacher via an automated email.
Changing permissions without them requesting it:
If a Headteacher or NC would like to grant permissions, they can do this via the management page without the person submitting a request for the permission.
Next to the name of each member of staff at the school, you will see a link to grant the different statuses available to you. Once granted, the person to whom this status has been added will automatically receive an email informing them of the change.
Revoking permissions:
When a staff member’s role in the school changes, for example, they leave the school, it is important that their USO account is kept up to date. On the Nominated Contact management page, all current administrators will have a Yes against their name and also a Revoke link that can be used to remove their permission.
