Chrome - Enable MV2 Extensions

Google has made a change which may disable your HomeProtect filtering on Chromebooks.

To ensure that you continue filtering your devices in pupil homes, please urgently ask your Google Admin to make the following change in the Google Workspace console.

Step 1 – Visit the ‘Manifest V2 extension availability’ page (In the Google Admin Console visit Devices > Chrome > Settings > User & Browser settings and search for Manifest V2 extension availability).
Step 2 – Change the Configuration setting to ‘Enable force-installed Manifest V2 extensions’
Step 3 – Click ‘Save’ at the bottom of the page

This will instantly ensure that your Chromebooks remain protected by HomeProtect web filtering.

The reason this is needed is that Google are deprecating and disabling Chrome Manifest Version 2 extensions, which HomeProtect relies on.

We are working with our partners at Netsweeper to update HomeProtect to Manifest Version 3, and when it is ready, your Chrome HomeProtect extensions will update to the latest version automatically.
